Two top Canadians to play in game seven of NBA’s Western Conference semifinal

There is a game seven is taking place on Sunday at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Oklahoma City Thunder are facing the Denver Nuggets with the Western Conference semifinal series tied at three games apiece.

There is significant buzz in the air from a Canadian perspective as the Nuggets and Thunder contain the two best Canadian basketball players–point guard Jamal Murray of Kitchener, Ontario, who plays for the Nuggets, and point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who plays for the Thunder. The winner of the series will face the Minnesota Timberwolves. On its roster, Minnesota has Shai’s cousin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker of Toronto, who is averaging 6.5 points per game.

Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 29.2 points per game, as he has 173 points in six contests. He also has 42 rebounds and 42 assists. In game two, Gilgeous-Alexander was remarkable as he had 34 points and was a sensational +51 in a dominant 149-106 Thunder win.

Murray is averaging 22 points per game, which is second on the Nuggets in the series. The only Nuggets player who is averaging more points is Nikola Jokic at 29.8 points per game.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference, there are two Canadians on the Indiana Pacers who have had a very good postseason. Small forward Bennedict Mathurin of Montreal, Quebec is averaging 10.9 points per game, and shooting guard Andrew Nembhard of Aurora, Ontario is averaging 14.6 points per game. Indiana will play New York in the Eastern Conference Final.
