There are two Canadians that have advanced from Pool A to the Sunday Showdown in the 2025 Calgary Stampede. They are Shelby Boisjoli-Meged of Langdon, Alberta, and Scott Guenthner of Provost, Alberta.

Boisjoli-Meged won Sunday’s Calgary Stampede competition with a time of 2.6 seconds in the breakaway roping event. It was the second time in three days that she posted the best time. On Friday, Boisjoli-Meged had the fastest time of 2.3 seconds. Boisjoli-Meged collected $14,500 over three days, the most money won among all 10 cowgirls from Pool A.

Guenthner finished in first place from Pool A in the steer wrestling event. On Sunday, he had the second fastest time of 4.7 seconds. He was only behind Justin Shaffer of Hico, Texas, who had a time of 4.3 seconds. Guenthner won $18,000 over three days, and easily beat Kyle Irwin of Robertsdale, Florida, who finished in second place with $10,500.

I am still waiting for an official word from the Calgary Stampede Media Relations department if Kyle Lucas of Carstairs, Alberta will be in the Sunday Showdown. There are conflicting reports regarding his qualification. Some have Lucas in fifth place as that is where he placed in total money won ($7,625). However, other sources have Lucas placing third. In this scenario, he is placed only behind John Douch of Huntsville, Texas and Shad Mayfield of Clovis, New Mexico. Lucas, Douch, and Mayfield were the only cowboys from Pool A to post a time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and might be rewarded for this accomplishment over cowboys that had no time on a single day. My question was reportedly a hot topic of conversation in the Calgary Stampede Media Centre on Tuesday. Once I receive an official answer from the Calgary Stampede, I will update this post.

Meanwhile, in the 2025 Rangeland Derby Chuckwagon racing event, Jamie Laboucane of St. Walburg, Saskatchewan had the fastest time on Sunday of 1:13.79. Chanse Vigen of Calgary, Alberta has the best aggregate time of 3:38.79 after three days.
