Trent Miner’s first NHL win is a shutout

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Trent Miner of Brandon, Manitoba recorded his first National Hockey League victory on Saturday. It just so happened to be a shutout in a 4-0 Avalanche win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.

Miner made 29 saves for the shutout. He made seven saves in the first period, 13 saves in the second period and nine saves in the third period. Defenseman Zach Werenski led the Blue Jackets with five shots on goal.

Two Canadians had multi-point games for the Avalanche. Defenseman Brent Burns of Barrie, Ontario had two goals and Parker Kelly of Camrose, Alberta had two assists.

So far in 2025-26, Miner has a record of one win, and two losses in extra time for a goals against average of 1.39 and a save percentage of .945.

Miner was the Avalanche’s seventh round pick, 202nd overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut last season coming into relief for Justus Annunen in a 5-2 Avalanche loss to the Washington Capitals on November 15, 2024.

The Avalanche continue to be the best team in the NHL. They have a record of 33 wins, four regulation losses and seven losses in extra time for 73 points. Miner is the third Canadian goaltender to record a shutout this season. He follows Scott Wedgewood of Brampton, Ontario and MacKenzie Blackwood of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
