
The Toronto Sceptres were involved in two separate trades in the Professional Women’s Hockey League on Tuesday. First, they traded goaltender and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Kristen Campbell of Brandon, Manitoba to Vancouver with a draft pick for two draft picks. Then, they acquired defenseman and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ella Shelton of Ingersoll, Ontario from the New York Sirens for two draft picks including Maddi Wheeler of Erinsville, Ontario.
Campbell had a record of nine wins, eight regulation losses, and four losses in extra time this past season for Toronto. She had a goals against average of 2.25 and a save percentage of .910. Shelton had eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 24 games. She was a -1 with 12 penalty minutes, one faceoff win, three power-play goals and 50 shots on goal.
One notable Canadians has switched teams in PWHL free agency this past week. Vancouver has signed Michela Cava of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Cava had nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points for the PWHL champion Minnesota Frost. She was a +11, with 10 penalty minutes, three faceoff wins, three power-play goals, and and 53 shots on goal.
The PWHL Expansion Draft also took place this month. Vancouver selected Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ashton Bell of Deloraine, Manitoba, and Brooke McQuigge of Bowmanville, Ontario. Seattle selected Jessie Eldridge of Barrie, Ontario, Julia Gosling of London, Ontario, and Megan Carter of Milton, Ontario. Shelton, Bell and Campbell won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
