
The Toronto Blue Jays continue to remain red hot at home. On Sunday, they tied a franchise record for most consecutive wins at home with 10 in an 8-6 win over the San Francisco Giants at the Rogers Centre. The last time the Blue Jays won 10 straight home games was from July 21 to August 3, 1985. That was the first season in franchise history that the Blue Jays made the postseason.
This past weekend against the Giants, the Blue Jays won their first game of the series by a score of 4-0 and the second game of the series by a score of 6-3. Toronto is now at 58 wins and 41 losses and lead the New York Yankees by three games in the American League East.
In Toronto’s Friday win, Chris Bassitt had a quality start as he threw 6 1/3 shutout innings, and had five strikeouts compared to zero walks. He did give up 10 hits, but none of the Giants baserunners scored. Brendon Little had a hold. Offensively, the Blue Jays had a key two-run RBI double in the second inning from Will Wagner that scored All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk and Joey Loperfido. The double came off future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander.
In Toronto’s Saturday win, Eric Lauer had a quality start as he gave up only two earned runs, two hits and zero walks, to go along with seven strikeouts. Chad Green and Little had holds, while Jeff Hoffman had the save. Offensively, Addison Barger had four hits (three singles and one double), while catcher Tyler Heineman hit a key two-run home run to give Toronto insurance as a Blue Jays lead went from 4-3 to 6-3.
In Toronto’s Sunday win, the Blue Jays had home runs from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec, George Springer and Barger. Jose Berrios had the win, Justin Bruihl and Tommy Nance had holds and Yariel Rodriguez had his second save of the season.
