
National Hockey League free agency began on Canada Day. Here are nine Canadians who switched teams.
Jonathan Drouin
The left-winger from Ste-Agathe, Quebec signed a two-year deal worth $8 million with the New York Islanders. He has previously played three seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning, six seasons with the Montreal Canadiens and two seasons with the Colorado Avalanche. This past season, Drouin had 11 goals and 26 assists for 37 points.
Corey Perry
The two-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist (2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi) from Peterborough, Ontario signed a one-year deal worth $2 million with the Los Angeles Kings. The right winger had 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points with the Edmonton Oilers this past season. The four-time NHL All-Star, 2011 Hart Trophy winner and Rocket Richard Trophy winner with the Anaheim Ducks, also won a Stanley Cup in Anaheim in 2007. Perry spent 14 seasons with the Ducks, one season with the Dallas Stars, one season with the Montreal Canadiens, two seasons each with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Edmonton Oilers and one season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Connor Brown
The right winger from Toronto Ontario signed a four-year deal worth $12 million with the New Jersey Devils. He is joining his fifth NHL team after four seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, three seasons with the Ottawa Senators, one season with the Washington Capitals, and two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers. Last season for the Oilers, Brown had 13 goals and 17 goals for 30 points.
Andrew Mangiapane
The left winger from Bolton, Ontario signed a two-year deal worth $7.2 million with the Edmonton Oilers. He is joining his third NHL team after seven seasons with the Calgary Flames and one season in Washington. Last season with the Capitals, Mangiapane had 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points.
Tanner Pearson
The left winger from Kitchener, Ontario signed a one-year deal worth $1 million with the Winnipeg Jets. He is joining his his sixth NHL team after six seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, one season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, five seasons each with the Vancouver Canucks and one season each with the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights. This past season, Pearson had 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points in 78 games with the Golden Knights.
Cody Ceci
The defenseman from Ottawa, Ontario signed a four-year deal worth $18 million with the Los Angeles Kings. He is joining his seventh NHL team after six seasons with the Ottawa Senators, one season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, one season with Pittsburgh Penguins, three seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, one season with the San Jose Sharks and one season with the Dallas Stars. This past season, he had four goals and 20 assists for 24 points.
Justin Brazeau
The right winger from New Liskeard, Ontario signed a two year contract worth $3 million with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is joining his third NHL team after two seasons with the Boston Bruins and one season with the Minnesota Wild. Last season in Boston and Minnesota, he had 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points.
Brandon Tanev
The left winger from Toronto signed a three-year deal worth $7.5 million with the Utah Mammoth. He is joining his fourth NHL team after five seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins and four seasons with the Seattle Kraken. Last season in Winnipeg and Seattle, Tanev had 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points.
Tanner Jeannot
The left winger from Estevan, Saskatchewan signed a five-year deal worth $17 million with the Boston Bruins. He is joining his fourth NHL team after three seasons in Nashville, two seasons in Tampa Bay, and one season in Los Angeles. This past season, Jeannot had seven goals and six assists for 13 points.
