The Houston Texans have traded wide receiver John Metchie III of Brampton, Ontario to the Philadelphia Eagles according to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports on Sunday. In addition to Metchie III, the Eagles received a sixth round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, the Texans received tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Metchie III has spent the last two seasons with the Texans. In 2024, he had 24 catches for 254 receiving yards and one touchdown catch. Metchie III’s most notable game this past season came on November 10 in a 26-23 Texans loss to the Detroit Lions. He had five catches for 74 receiving yards and one touchdown. Metchie III’s major score was 15 yards from C.J. Stroud with 12 seconds left in the first half to put Houston up 23-7. However, it was a lead Houston could not keep as Detroit scored 19 unanswered second half points.

In two seasons in Houston, Metchie III had 40 catches for 412 receiving yards and one touchdown. He added one rush for four rushing yards. Right now Metchie III is fifth on the Eagles depth chart at wide receiver behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson and Johnny Wilson.

Bryant played four seasons with the Cleveland Browns and one season with the Las Vegas Raiders. He had nine catches for 86 yards with the Raiders last season, before signing as a free agent with the Eagles.
