Team Canada wins two medals at 2025 Skate America

Team Canada came away with two medals at 2025 Skate America this past weekend in Lake Placid, New York. In the pairs event which completed on Saturday, Kelly Ann Laurin of Saint-Jerome, Quebec and Loucas Ethier of Saint-Eustache, Quebec, won the bronze medal. In the ice dance event which completed on Sunday, Marjorie Lajoie of Boucherville, Quebec, and Zachary Lagha of Greenfield Park, Quebec won the silver medal.

In the pairs event, Laurin and Ethier had a third place total score of 182.87 points. Riku Mihura and Ryuichi Kihara of Japan won the gold medal with a first place total score of 215.99 points. Anastasiia Metelkina and Luka Berulava of Georgia won the silver medal with a second place total score of 195.73 points. Laurin and Ethier reached the podium by 2.85 points. Emily Chan and Spencer Akira Howe of the United States finished in fourth place with a total score of 180.02 points. It was actually a sensational comeback for Laurin and Ethier. They were sixth after the short program, but had the second best free skate score of 121.58 points to reach the podium. This was the second Grand Prix medal for Laurin and Ethier as they also won bronze at Skate America in Boston in 2022.

In the ice dance event, Lajoie and Lagha had a second place score of 197.16 points. Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States won the gold medal with a score of 212.58 points. Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud of France won the bronze medal with a score of 192.61 points. Lajoie and Lagha reached the podium by 10.47 points over Loicia Demougeot and Theo le Mercier of France, who finished in fourth place with a score of 186.69 points.

This was the eighth Grand Prix medal for Lajoie and Lagha. The medals for Lajoie, Lagha, Laurin and Ethier will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
