Team Canada has improved to a record of four wins and two losses at the 2026 World Men’s Curling Championship in Ogden, Utah. On Monday, the Canadian team skipped by Matt Dunstone of Winnipeg, Manitoba, defeated Poland’s Konrad Stych 9-2 and Japan’s Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi 8-3.
The wins over Poland and Japan came after a terrible weekend for the Canadians. On Saturday, they were clobbered 8-3 by Team Scotland’s Ross Whyte. Then on Sunday, they were even worse as they were spanked 9-3 to John Shuster of the United States.
In Canada’s win over Poland, Team Canada was very strong in the middle ends. With the game tied at two after four ends, Dustone scored two points with the hammer in the fifth end, and then stole five points (three points in the sixth end and two points in the seventh end) to record the seven point win.
In Canada’s win over Japan, the key end was the seventh end as Team Dunstone scored four points. The Canadian second EJ Harnden made a great shot to remove a Japanese stone in the eight foot, and then Canadian skip Matt Dunstone bounced back a Japanese stone from the four foot to score four points. Japan was actually lying four at one stage in the end themselves, but the end shifted when Yamaguchi was unable to remove a Canadian stone.
Canada is currently in fourth place after four days at four wins and two losses. They are behind Sweden (7-0), Switzerland (6-1), and Scotland (4-2).
