
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Summer McIntosh of Toronto, Ontario won the gold medal on Sunday in the women’s 400 metre individual medley at the 2025 World Aquatics Championship in Singapore. For McIntosh, it was her fifth medal at the World Aquatics Championships. She also won gold in the women’s 400 metre freestyle, the women’s 200 metre individual medley and women’s 200 metre butterfly. McIntosh also won bronze in the women’s 800 metre freestyle.
McIntosh’s Sunday gold medal winning time in the women’s 400 metre individual medley was 4:25.78. Jenna Forrester of Australia and Mio Narita of Japan won the silver medal with a time of 4:33.26. McIntosh reached the podium by 7.98 seconds over 12-year-old Chinese sensation Zidi Yu of China, who had a fourth place time of 4:33.76. McIntosh is the world record holder in the women’s 400 metre individual medley. She had a time of 4:23.65 at the Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, British Columbia on June 11.
The 2025 World Aquatics Championship in Singapore is now complete. Canada finished the event with nine medals. That was the ninth most number of medals overall.
At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, McIntosh won gold in the women’s 200 metre butterfly, the women’s 200 metre individual medley, and the women’s 400 metre individual medley. McIntosh’s 400 metre individual medley gold medal in Singapore will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
