Summer McIntosh named Canadian Press Female Athlete of the Year

For the third straight year Canadian Olympic gold medalist Summer McIntosh of Toronto, Ontario has won the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award as Canada’s top female athlete. She is the second person ever to win the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award three years in a row. The first was Canadian Olympic gold medalist Barbara Ann Scott of Ottawa, Ontario who won three straight years from 1946 to 1948.

McIntosh ís being honoured for her excellence in women’s swimming. In 2025, McIntosh won five medals at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, and set three worlds records at the 2025 Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, British Columbia.

At the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, McIntosh won four gold medals and one bronze medal. She was first in the women’s 400 metre freestyle, women’s 200 metre butterfly, women’s 200 metre individual medley, and women’s 400 metre individual medley. McIntosh set a Canadian record for the most gold medals at a single World Aquatics Championship (four). McIntosh also won the bronze medal in the women’s 800 metre freestyle. McIntosh’s world records came in the women’s 400 metre freestyle (3:54.18), women’s 200 metre individual medley (2:05.70), and women’s 400 metre individual medley (4:23.65).

McIntosh ís a three-time Olympic gold medalist. She placed first in the women’s 200 metre butterfly, women’s 200 metre individual medley and women’s 400 metre medley at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Scott won her gold medal in women’s figure skating at the 1948 Olympic Winter Games in St. Moritz.
