The Edmonton Oilers are in the 2025 National Hockey League Western Conference Finals. On Wednesday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, the Oilers eliminated the Vegas Golden Knights with a 1-0 overtime win. With the victory, the Oilers beat the Golden Knights four games to one in the best out of seven series.
What we saw once again was flawless goaltending from Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta. Skinner made 24 saves for the shutout. He made five saves in the first period, eight saves in the second period, nine saves in the third period, and two saves in overtime.
This was Skinner’s third playoff shutout. He previously blanked the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 in game four of the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the Golden Knights 3-0 in game four of the second round of the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Skinner became the third Oilers goaltender to record back-to-back playoff shutouts according to Jack Michaels of Rogers Sportsnet. He follows Canadian Olympic gold medalist Curtis Joseph of Keswick, Ontario who accomplished the feat in a 2-0 Oilers win over the Colorado Avalanche on May 2, 1998, and in a 4-0 Oilers win over the Avalanche on May 4, 1998; and Cam Talbot of Caledonia, Ontario who accomplished the feat in a 2-0 Oilers win over the San Jose Sharks on April 14, 2017, and in a 1-0 Oilers win over the Sharks on April 16, 2017. Joseph won a gold medal for Canada at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
