
Steven Stamkos of Markham, Ontario made National Hockey League history on Wednesday by scoring his 600th National Hockey league goal. He accomplished the feat in a 4-2 Nashville Predators win over the Vegas Golden Knights on New Year’s Eve from T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. Stamkos became the 22nd NHL player in history to score 600 goals. Of the 600 NHL goals, 555 goals came with the Tampa Bay Lightning and 45 goals came with the Predators.
Stamkos scored his 600th NHL goal with four minutes and 23 seconds left in the first period. He scored on the power-play from Luke Evangelista of Toronto, Ontario and Filip Forsberg. At the time, Stamkos tied the game at two goals apiece.
In an interesting statistic, Stamkos currently leads the NHL with seven game-winning goals. He has 98 game-winning goals in his career.
Stamkos’s 600 NHL goals have come over 1203 regular season games. He has led the NHL for most goals in a single season twice. Stamkos had 51 goals in the 2009-10 season and 60 goals in the 2011-12 season.
The Predators improved to a record of 18 wins, 17 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 40 points. They are currently one point back of the Los Angeles Kings for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
