
Steven Dubois of Laval, Quebec has won the gold medal in the men’s 500 metres at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. For Dubois, it was his fifth career Olympic medal.
Dubois posted a winning time of 40.835 seconds. Melle van t’ Wout of the Netherlands won the silver medal with a time of 40.912. Jens van t’Wout of the Netherlands won the bronze medal with a time of 41.908. It is remarkable because brothers shared the Olympic podium of the same individual event.
Dubois comfortably reached the podium. He placed third by 24.525 seconds. Teun Boer of the Netherlands, who fell during the race, posted a fourth place time of 1:05.360.
This was Dubois’s first individual gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games. He previously won gold in the men’s 5000 metre relay at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Also at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, Dubois won two individual medals. He won the silver medal in the men’s 1500 metres and a bronze medal in the men’s 500 metres. This was Dubois’s second medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan. He previously won a silver medal in the mixed 2000 metre relay on February 10.
Canada has now won 14 medals at the Olympic Winter Games. They have won four gold medals, four silver medals, and six bronze medals.
