Steven Dubois wins gold in men’s 500 metres at 2026 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Steven Dubois of Laval, Quebec won the gold medal on Saturday in the men’s 500 metres at the 2026 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. For Dubois, who won the gold medal in the men’s 5000 metre relay at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing and the men’s 500 metres at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, this was his eighth career medal at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships.

Dubois posted a winning time of 40.153 seconds. Jens van ‘t Wout of the Netherlands won the silver medal with a time of 40.329 seconds. Furkan Akasr of Turkey won the bronze medal with a time of 40.641 seconds. Dubois reached the podium by 5.992 seconds. Stijn Desmet of Belgium had a fourth place time of 46.145 seconds.

This was the second straight year that Dubois won the gold medal in the men’s 500 metres the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships. Last year in Beijing, Dubois won with a time of 40.008 seconds. When Dubois won the Olympic gold medal, he had a time of 40.835 seconds.

Four of Dubois’s World Championship medals came last year in Beijing. They were all gold medals. He also placed first in the men’s 1000 metres, the the 2000 metre mixed relay and the men’s 5000 metre relay.
