The Dallas Stars have named Glen Gulutzan of The Pas, Manitoba as their new head coach according to the Associated Press on Tuesday. This is Gulutzan’s second time coaching the Stars as he was there from 2011 to 2013. In those two seasons, the Stars had a record of 64 wins, 57 regulation losses and nine losses in extra time for a winning percentage of .527.

Gulutzan then was the head coach of the Calgary Flames from 2016 to 2018. In those two seasons, the Flames had a record of 72 wins, 68 regulation losses and 14 losses in extra time for a winning percentage of .543. In both seasons coaching the Flames and Stars, Gulutzan had a better record in year one than year two. In three of the four seasons Gulutzan was a head coach, he was unable to make the playoffs. The only time Gulutzan made the playoffs was 2017, as the Flames were swept by the Anaheim Ducks.

For a decade, Gulutzan has been an assistant coach. He was with the Vancouver Canucks from 2013 to 2016, and with the Edmonton Oilers from 2018 to 2025. While with the Oilers, Gulutzan went to the Stanley Cup Finals the last two years, and Gulutzan was in charge of the power-play, one of the most electrifying power plays in the National Hockey League.
