
Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Sophiane Methot of Longueuil, Quebec won a World Cup bronze medal in women’s trampoline in Riccione, Italy on Sunday. This was her third career World Cup medal.
Methot posted a third place score of 55.31 points. Yicheng Hu of China won the gold medal with a score of 57.03 points. Sofiia Aliaeva of the Individual Neutral Athletes won the silver medal with a score of 56.6 points. Methot reached the podium by 1.29 points over Sofia Correia of Portugal, who finished in fourth place with a score of 54.02 points.
According to Gymnastics Canada on Monday, this was Methot’s first trampoline competition since winning the bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. At the Olympic Games last year, Methot had a third place score of 55.65 points. That was 0.34 more points than her Sunday score in Italy. Hu struggled in the Olympic final as she only posted a score of 11.79 points.
Methot’s first World Cup medal came in 2017 in Minsk, Belarus. Methot won a bronze medal in a women’s synchronized trampoline event alongside Sarah Milette of Greenfield Park, Quebec. That was followed by a bronze medal in Coimbra, Portugal in 2024. The bronze medal in Italy will give Methot confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
