
Sophia Howell of Airdrie, Alberta won the bronze medal at a World Cup women’s triathlon event in San Pedro de La Paz, Chile. For Howell, it was her very first World Cup medal in women’s triathlon.
Howell had a third place time of one hour, one minute and 11 seconds. Miriam Casillas Garcia of Spain won the gold medal with a time of one hour, one minute and two seconds. Jeanne Lehair of Luxembourg won the bronze medal with a time of one hour, one minute and eight seconds. Howell reached the podium by 13 seconds. Marta Pintanel Raymundo of Spain finished in fourth place with a time of one hour, one minute and 24 seconds.
Howell’s swim time was nine minutes and 11 seconds. That was the third fastest swim time. Shew was only behind Kanae Takenaka of Japan, who had a time of nine minutes and three seconds, and Vittoria Lopes of Brazil, who had a second place time of nine minutes and nine seconds, Howell then had a transition time from the swim to the bike of one minute and threee seconds, and the second fastest cycling time of 32 minutes and 53 seconds. The fastest bike time was Katie Rodda of Great Britain, who had a time of 32 minutes and 50 seconds. Howell then had a transition to the run of 24 seconds, and then a running time of 17 minutes and 38 seconds. The bronze medal for Howell will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
