Six players chosen for Team Canada in men’s hockey at 2026 Olympic Winter Games

Six players have been chosen for Team Canada in men’s hockey at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. In an announcement made on Monday, the players chosen are Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Colorado Avalanche centre Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar of Calgary, Alberta, Florida Panthers centre Sam Reinhart of West Vancouver, British Columbia, Tampa Bay Lightning centre Brayden Point of Calgary, and Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.

McDavid had 26 goals and 74 assists for 100 points this past season. He was a +20 with 37 penalty minutes with 31 power-play points, three game-winning goals, 196 shots on goal, 370 faceoff wins, 18 blocked shots, 40 hits, 32 takeaways, and 74 giveaways.

MacKinnon had 32 goals and a NHL-high 84 assists for 116 points this past season. He was a +25 with 41 penalty minutes with 38 power-play points, five game-winning goals, a NHL-high 320 shots on goal, 756 faceoff wins, 58 blocked shots, 38 hits, 27 takeaways, and 121 giveaways.

Makar, who won the Norris Trophy, had 30 goals and 62 assists for 92 points this past season. He was a +28 with 14 penalty minutes, 35 power-play points, three shorthanded points, four game-winning goals, 246 shots on goal, 128 blocked shots, 51 hits, 60 takeaways, and 113 giveaways.

Reinhart had 39 goals and 42 assists for 81 points this past season. He was a +6 with 27 penalty minutes, 30 power-play points, six shorthanded points, four game-winning goals, 212 faceoff wins, 62 blocked shots, 103 hits, 24 takeaways, and 74 giveaways.

Point had 42 goals and 40 assists for 82 points this past season. He was a +17 with seven penalty minutes, 31 power-play points, seven game-winning goals, 189 shots on goal, 430 faceoff wins, 45 blocked shots, 26 hits, 17 takeaways, and 45 giveaways.

Crosby won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. In 2024-25, he had 33 goals and 58 assists for 91 points. He was a -20 with 31 penalty minutes, 27 power-play points, 10 game-winning goals, 227 shots on goal, 1016 faceoff wins, 39 blocked shots, 67 hits, 29 takeaways, and 86 giveaways.
