According to the Associated Press on Tuesday, San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture of Guelph, Ontario has retired at age 36. A centre, Couture played 15 seasons with the Sharks from 2009 to 2024.

The reason for the retirement is because Couture was suffering from osteitis pubis. That is “inflammation in the joint between the left and right pubic bones” according to the Associated Press.

Couture played 933 National Hockey League regular season games. He had 323 goals and 378 assists for 701 points. In 2011-12, Couture was a NHL All-Star. In 80 games that season, he had 31 goals and 34 assists for 65 points. Couture also scored two overtime goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in his career. The first came on May 18, 2013 in game three of the 2013 Western Conference semifinals. The Sharks defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 on an all-Canadian goal. Canadian Olympic gold medalists Joe Thornton of London, Ontario and Patrick Marleau of Swift Current, Saskatchewan picked up the assists at 1:29 of the extra period on the power-play. Thornton won gold at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and Marleau won gold at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. The second came on April 28, 2018 in game two of the 2018 Western Conference semifinals. The Sharks defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on the power-play at 5:13 of the second overtime period.
