Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wins 2025 Magic Johnson Trophy

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario has been named the 2025 Earvin “Magic” Johnson Trophy winner. The award is presented to the most valuable player of the Western Conference Final. Gilgeous-Alexander was on the Thunder team that beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games on Wednesday.

Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.4 points per game, 8.2 assists per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 1.8 steals per game. He had a field goal percentage of .457, a three-point percentage of .318, and a free throw percentage of .863.

In the five game series, Gilgeous-Alexander’s most impressive game came in game four. In a 128-126 Thunder win over the Timberwolves in Minnesota, he had a career postseason high 40 points, to go along with 10 assists. This victory for Oklahoma City gave the Thunder a three games to one lead at the time. Gilgeous-Alexander also scored 31 points in a 114-88 game one win, 38 points in a 118-103 game two win, and 34 points in a 124-94 game five win.

Gilgeous-Alexander is one of two Thunder players from Canada. The other is small forward Luguentz Dort of Montreal, Quebec. There are two Canadians on the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers, which lead the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Final, have small forward Bennedict Mathurin of Montreal, Quebec, and guard Andrew Nembhard of Aurora, Ontario.
