Edmonton’s Selena Sturmay tied a Scotties Tournament of Hearts record on Thursday for the most points in a single end. Sturmay scored seven points in the 10th end thanks to an impressive run back with her final stone in a 12-6 Alberta win over New Brunswick’s Melodie Forsythe from Mississauga, Ontario.
Team Alberta is the fourth team ever to score seven points in a single end in Scotties Tournament of Hearts history. The other three were New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford (seven points in the seventh end) in a 13-7 win over Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson on February 20, 2020 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Saskatchewan’s Robyn Silvernagle (seven points in the eighth end) in a 13-4 win over Nunavut’s Brigitte MacPhail on February 22, 2023 in Kamloops, British Columbia; and Quebec’s Laurie St-Georges (seven points in the seventh end) in a 12-3 win over Northwest Territories’s Kerry Galusha on February 16, 2025 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
We also found out on Thursday who the sixth team in the Championship Round would be. It is Nova Scotia’s Taylour Stevens, who made a terrific shot for three points in a 9-7 win over Ontario’s Hailey Armstrong. Stevens and Sturmay finished in third place in their respective pools. Friday’s 1-2 qualifier games will see Einarson versus Manitoba’s Kelsey Calvert and Nova Scotia’s Christina Black against Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes.
