Toronto Raptors power forward Scottie Barnes has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week from January 5 to January 11. In the three games Barnes played, he averaged 22 points, 6.3 rebounds and six assists. Barnes did not play in the only game the Raptors lost this past week because of a knee sprain according to the Canadian Press.
Barnes began the week with a double-double (18 points and 10 assists) in a 118-100 Raptors win over the Atlanta Hawks on January 5. That was followed by 17 points in a 97-96 Raptors win over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, and 31 points in a 116-115 Raptors overtime win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. In the Raptors win over the 76ers, Barnes made the game-winning free throw.
For the season, Barnes is averaging 19.3 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game (a career high), 5.3 assists per game, 1.4 blocks per game and 1.3 steals per game. He has a field goal percentage of exactly .500 (made 299 of 598 pass attempts), a free throw percentage of .842 and three point percentage of .336.
The Raptors are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. They are at 24 wins and 17 losses for a winning percentage of .585. The only three teams they are behind are the Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics.
