Scott Wedgewood records his 10th NHL career shutout

Scott Wedgewood of Brampton, Ontario recorded his 10th National Hockey League career shutout on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 1-0 Colorado Avalanche win over the Utah Mammoth at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.

Wedgewood made 32 saves. He made nine saves in the first period, 11 saves in the second period, and 12 saves in the third period.

Avalanche defenseman Samuel Girard of Roberval, Quebec scored the only goal of the game. It came at 7:57 of the second period. Girard also had the only point in the entire game as his game-winning goal was unassisted. This was only Girard’s second goal all season. The first came a week ago in a 5-3 Avalanche win over the Seattle Kraken. Girard scored from Valeri Nichushkin and fellow Avalanche defenseman Brent Burns of Barrie, Ontario at 13:29 of the second period to tie the game at two at the time.

This season, Wedgewood has been amazing. He has a record of 16 wins, one regulation loss and four losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.01, save percentage of .924, and two shutouts. Wedgewood’s other shutout this season came on November 23 in a 1-0 Avalanche win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Wedgewood’s 16 wins and 2.01 goals against average leads the NHL.  Of Wedgewood’s 10 NHL shutouts, four have been with the Colorado Avalanche, three have been with the New Jersey Devils, two have been with the Dallas Stars and one have been with the Arizona Coyotes.

The Avalanche are the best team in the NHL. They have a record of 27 wins, two regulation losses, and seven losses in extra time for 61 points.
