
Colorado Avalanche goaltender Scott Wedgewood of Brampton, Ontario recorded his 11th career National Hockey League shutout on Saturday. He accomplished the feat in a 2-0 Avalanche win over the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
Wedgewood only had to make 17 saves for the shutout. He made eight saves in the first period, four saves in the second period, and five saves in the third period. Of Wedgewood’s 11 career National Hockey League shutouts, five shutouts have come with the Avalanche, three shutouts have been with the New Jersey Devils, two shutouts have been with the Stars, and one shutout has been with the Arizona Coyotes.
Offensively, Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia scored his NHL leading 51st goal of the season with an empty net insurance goal. He also leads the NHL with 40 even strength goals, 327 shots on goal, and in the plus/minus category (+57).
Wedgewood has put himself in the Vezina Trophy conversation. He leads the NHL in goals against average (2.13), and save percentage (.918). Wedgewood also has a magnificent record of 28 wins, six regulation losses and six losses in extra time with three shutouts.
The Avalanche lead the NHL with 110 points. They have a record of 50 wins, 15 regulation losses and 10 losses in extra time.
