Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has been named the host city of the 2027 Montana’s Brier according to Rogers Sportsnet. This will be the 100th Canadian National Men’s Curling Championship and seventh in Saskatoon. They previously hosted the tournament in 1946, 1965, 1989, 2000, 2004, and 2012. The previous six Brier skip champions in Saskatoon over the years have been Billy Rose of Sedgewick, Alberta (1946), Terry Braunstein of Binscarth, Manitoba (1965), Pat Ryan of Edmonton, Alberta (1989), Greg McAulay of Richmond, British Columbia (2000), Mark Dacey of Halifax, Nova Scotia (2004), and Glenn Howard of Midland, Ontario (2012).

Saskatchewan meanwhile has not won the Brier since 1980 when Rick Folk of Saskatoon was victorious at Calgary’s Stampede Corral. It is one of the most remarkable storylines in the history of the tournament, when you consider the fact that Saskatchewan has a rich history in curling.

However, a Saskatchewan-based team could be in contention in 2027. That is because a team skipped by Mike McEwen won the silver medal at the 2024 Brier, and lost in the final to Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Gushue of St. John’s, Newfoundland by a score of 9-5 in Regina. Gushue won the gold medal for Canada at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin.

Before that, Canada will be hosting two significant curling tournaments. They are the 2025 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Halifax, Nova Scotia and the 2026 Brier in St. John’s.
