The Saskatchewan Roughriders are the 2025 Grey Cup champions. On Sunday from Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, the Roughriders beat the Montreal Alouettes 25-17 for their fifth Grey Cup in franchise history. They previously won the Grey Cups in 1966, 1989, 2007 and 2013. It was the first time they beat the Alouettes in the Grey Cup as they previously beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats twice, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Ottawa Rough Riders once each.
In the Grey Cup game, the top Canadian was Samuel Emilus of Montreal, Quebec. The Roughriders wide receiver who was in his fourth year with the team, had 10 catches for 108 receiving yards. You can make the argument that Emilius was the best receiver and best offensive player in the entire game. However, Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris was the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player after completing 23 of 27 passes for 302 passing yards.
The turning point in the game came with two minutes and 53 seconds left. That is when Alouettes quarterback Shea Patterson fumbled the football in the end zone and was recovered by Roughriders cornerback Marcus Sayles. The Alouettes were unable to generate a point after that.
Emilius was one of nine Canadians who started for the Roughriders in the Grey Cup. He was joined by wide receiver Ajou Ajou of Brooks, Alberta, linebacker A.J. Allen of Burlington, Ontario, defensive back Tevaughn Campbell of Scarborough, Ontario, offensive lineman Logan Ferland of Melfort, Saskatchewan, long snapper Jorgen Hus of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, kicker Brett Lauther of Truro, Nova Scotia, and wide receivers Tommy Nield of Guelph, Ontario, and Kiam Schaffer-Baker of Mississauga, Ontario.
