
Sarah Mitton of Brooklyn, Nova Scotia won the silver medal in women’s shot put at a Diamond League event in Brussels, Belgium on Friday. Mitton posted a throw of 19.89 metres for her third Diamond League medal of the season and her 14th Diamond League medal of her career.
Chase Jackson of the United States won the gold medal on Friday with a throw of 20.9 metres. Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands won the bronze medal with a throw of 19.58 points. Mitton reached the podium by nine tenths of a metre. Yemisi Ogunleye of Germany finished in fourth place with a throw of 18.99 metres.
Mitton is in third place in the Diamond League standings with 29 points. Jackson leads with 38 points and Schilder is in second place with 33 points. The women’s shot put Diamond League final will be in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday. The women’s shot put event at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan will take place on September 20.
Mitton’s first Diamond League medal this season was a silver in Eugene, Oregon on July 5, and the second Diamond League medal this season was a bronze in Monaco on July 11. The silver medal for Mitton on Friday will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
