Sabres sign forward Justin Danforth

The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Justin Danforth of Oshawa, Ontario to a two-year contract worth $3.6 million on Wednesday according to Rogers Sportsnet. The Sabres are Danforth’s second National Hockey League team as he has spent the last four seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Danforth is a centre and right wing.

Danforth had nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points this past season. He was a -6 with 18 penalty minutes, one power-play point, one shorthanded point, and one game-winning goal, 94 shots on goal, 327 faceoff wins, 49 blocked shots, 126 hits, eight takeaways, and 26 giveaways.

Danforth’s shorthanded point was a shorthanded goal in a 5-1 Blue Jackets win over the Boston Bruins on November 18. Danforth scored from Cole Sillinger of Regina, Saskatchewan at 7:19 of the third period. At the time, the Blue Jackets went up by a score of 4-1.

Danforth’s game-winning goal came on March 1 in a 5-3 Blue Jackets win over the Detroit Red Wings. Danforth broke a 3-3 tie on a goal from Zach Aston-Reese and Ivan Provorov with two minutes and 17 seconds left in the third period. Danforth added an assist for a multi-point game.

On October 22, Danforth tied a career-high with three points in a game. He had one goal and two assists in a 6-2 Blue Jackets win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
