The second grand slam curling event of the season completed on Sunday with Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario victorious on the women’s side. Homan’s team from the Ottawa Curling Club in Ontario, defeated Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland 8-2 in the final of the 2025 Co-op Tour Challenge in Nisku, Alberta.
It was a record breaking grand slam title for Homan. According to Jonathan Brazeau of the Grand Slam of Curling website, Homan now has 19 grand slam titles, the most ever. Homan’s teammate Emma Miskew of Ottawa also has 19 grand slam titles. She has been Homan’s second and third over the years. Over the years, Homan and Miskew have won five Masters titles, four Canadian Opens, four Champions Cups, three Nationals, and three Tour Challenges.
The skip with the most Grand Slam of Curling titles previously to Homan came on the men’s side as Canadian Olympic gold medalist Kevin Martin of Killam, Ontario won 18 grand slam titles. (However, it should be noted that Martin won three Players Championships before it officially became a grand slam event in 2002).
In Nisku this past week, Homan had a record of six wins and one loss. She also beat Xenia Schwaller of Switzerland 7-5, Isabella Wrana of Sweden 6-5 and Japan’s Sayaka Yoshimura 7-4 in Pool A play, fellow Canadian Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba 9-3 in the quarterfinals, and Anna Hasselborg of Sweden 5-4 in the semifinals. One thing Homan does not have on her resume that Martin has, and that is an Olympic medal. Martin won the gold medal in men’s curling at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
