Rachel Homan dominates in first match at 2025 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials

From what we have seen on the first day of the 2025 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario is on a mission. The focus is clear. To win not only medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo, but Olympic gold.

On Saturday, Homan simply dominated her opponent. In the sixth end, Homan had a six ender. Yes folks, six of the eight rocks in the sixth end her team threw counted en route to a dominant 16-5 win. This match was over after four ends as Homan had an 8-1 lead at that time.

It was also a dominant afternoon for the tournament’s second seed on the women’s side too as Gimli, Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson clobbered Nova Scotia’s Christina Black 12-5. Einarson had a 6-0 lead after the second end, and had a 12-1 lead after seven ends before Black scored four points win what they call garbage time in football. Also on the women’s side, Selena Sturmay of Edmonton beat Kayla Skrlik of Calgary 8-2, and Kaitlyn Lawes of Winnipeg beat Corryn Brown of Kamloops, British Columbia 7-4.

On the men’s side, there was one significant upset. Kevin Koe defeated Brad Jacobs 6-5 in the men’s version of the battle of Alberta.
