
Canadian Olympic bronze medalists Piper Gilles of Toronto, Ontario and Paul Poirier of Ottawa, Ontario have won the silver medal for Canada in ice dance at the 2026 World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czech Republic. For Gilles and Poirier, this was their fifth career medal at the World Figure Skating Championships.
Gilles and Poirier posted a score of 211.52 points. Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron of France won the gold medal with 230.81 points. Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik of the United States win the bronze medal with a score of 209.2 points. Gilles and Poirier reached the podium by 2.54 points over Lilah Fear and Leah Gibson of Great Britain, who had a fourth place score of 208.98 points. It is interesting that Fear and Gibson were penalized for an illegal lift during the free dance according to Jane K Bradley of The Scotsman.
This was the third straight year that Gilles and Poirier won a silver medal at the World Figure Skating Championships. They previously placed second in 2024 in Montreal and in 2025 in Boston. Gilles and Poirier have also won two bronze medals at the World Figure Skating Championships. They were third in Stockholm, Sweden in 2021 and then in Saitama, Japan in 2023. Gilles and Poirier won the bronze medal in ice dance at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
