Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier capture bronze in ice dance at 2026 Olympic Winter Games

Piper Gilles of Toronto, Ontario, and Paul Poirier of Ottawa, Ontario won the bronze medal on Wednesday at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. It was a strong performance for Gilles and Poirier, who benefited from a stumble by Great Britain’s Lilah Fear during a twizzle sequence.

Gilles and Poirier posted a bronze medal score of 217.74 points. Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron of France won the gold medal with a score of 225.82 and Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States won the silver medal with a score of 224.39. Gilles and Poirier reached the podium by 8.16 points. Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy finished in fourth place with a score of 209.58 points.

Canada has now won five medals in ice dance in the history of the Olympic Winter Games. Tracy Wilson of Lachine, Quebec, and Rob McCall of Halifax, Nova Scotia won bronze at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary. Then, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of London, Ontario, won the gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, silver at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, and gold at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

This was Canada’s fourth medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. They have won one silver medal and three bronze medals for four medals overall.
