
Pittsburgh Penguins centre and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia became the Pittsburgh Penguins’s all-time leader in points on Sunday. He now has 1724 career points (all with the Penguins), which is one more point than long time Penguins captain Mario Lemieux of Montreal, Quebec, who had 1723 career points from 1984 to 2006 (all with the Penguins).
Crosby made history on Sunday night in a 4-3 Penguins win over the Montreal Canadiens. Crosby set up Rickard Rakell at 12:40 of the first period with his 1724th career point to put the Penguins up 2-1 at the time. This was Crosby’s second point of the game. He previously scored at 7:58 of the first period to tie the game at one. Erik Karlsson and Rakell had the assists.
In 2025-26, Crosby has 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 35 games. He is a -7 with 28 penalty minutes, 15 power-play points, two game winning goals, 84 shots on goal, 406 face-off wins, 15 blocked shots, 32 hits, 11 takeaways, and 38 giveaways. In Crosby’s career (which started in 2005-06), he has 645 goals and 1079 assists for 1724 points. He is a +190 with 882 penalty minutes, 602 power-play points, 11 shorthanded points, 102 game-winning goals, and 4383 shots on goal.
Crosby’s first game-winning goal of the season came on October 18 in a 3-0 Penguins win over the San Jose Sharks on October 18. Crosby scored from defenseman Kris Letang of Montreal, Quebec and Rakell at 7:35 of the second period to put the Canadiens up 2-0 at the time. Crosby’s second game-winning goal of the season came on December 1 in a 5-1 Penguins win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Crosby scored from Bryan Rust and Erik Karlsson at 8:08 of the second period on the power-play. Crosby’s first Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey came at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and his second Olympic gold medal came at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
With the win, the Penguins improved to a record of 15 wins, 11 regulation losses and nine losses in extra time for 39 points. They are two points back of the New Jersey Devils for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
