The Ottawa Senators were in a do-or-die situation on Saturday in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. After losing their first three games of the series to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Senators came through with a 4-3 victory in the Eastern Conference first round.

One Canadian scored for the Senators on Saturday. That was left winger David Perron of Sherbrooke, Quebec. Perron scored his 25th National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoff postseason goal, but first with the Senators. Twenty-two of the goals have come with the St. Louis Blues, while the other goals have been with the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks.

The other three Senators to score on Saturday were Shane Pinto, Jake Sanderson and Tim Stutzle. Sanderson led the Senators in scoring as he had one goal and one assist for two points. Sanderson’s goal was the overtime winner as he scored an unassisted marker with two minutes and 18 seconds left in the extra period.

Jake Sanderson’s father Geoff Sanderson of Hay River, Northwest Territories was in attendance. Geoff Sanderson is the best hockey player ever from the Northwest Territories. He had 700 points (355 goals and 345 assists) in 1104 National Hockey League regular season games from 1991 to 2008. Geoff Sanderson also scored one Stanley Cup playoff overtime winner. It came on May 8, 1998 in game one of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Sanderson scored from Donald Audette of Laval, Quebec and Brian Holzinger in a 3-2 Buffalo Sabres win over the Montreal Canadiens at 2:37 of the extra period.
