The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees have won the 2025 University Cup. On Sunday, they defeated the Concordia University Stingers 3-2 to win the 2025 Canadian University Men’s Hockey Championship from Toronto Dominion Place Arena in Ottawa, Ontario.
The Gee-Gees scored the first three goals of the game before Concordia scored twice. The Gee-Gees were led in scoring by starting centre Vincent Labelle of Ottawa, Ontario and starting left winger Mitch Martin of Sudbury, Ontario. Labelle had one goal and one assist for two points and Martin had two assists for two points. The other two goal scorers for the Gee-Gees were Bradley Chenier of Kitchener, Ontario and Luka Verreault of Rimouski, Quebec.
This was the first University Cup title ever for the Gee-Gees. The University of Ottawa became the first university to win the University Cup in their home city since the University of New Brunswick Reds beat the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 5-3 in Fredericton. The Gee-Gees are the first team based out of Ontario to win the University Cup since the University of Western Ontario Mustangs beat the University of Quebec-Trois-Rivieres Patriotes 4-3 in triple overtime in the 2002 tournament final from Waterloo, Ontario.
The 2025 University Cup will be best remembered by the quarterfinal game between Toronto Metropolitan University and Mount Royal University. The game was the longest U Sports Men’s Hockey Game ever played with the Bold beating the Cougars 5-4 at 3:33 of quintuple overtime.
