In a mid-season National Hockey League trade on Friday, the Edmonton Oilers have traded goaltender Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta to the Pittsburgh Penguins for fellow goaltender Tristan Jarry of Surrey, British Columbia according to nhl.com on Friday. In addition to Skinner, the Penguins received defenseman Brett Kulak of Edmonton, Alberta and a second round pick in the 2029 NHL Entry Draft. In addition to Jarry, the Oilers receive right wing prospect Samuel Poulin of Blainville, Quebec.

We knew that the Oilers were interested in upgrading their goaltending. Skinner had delivered some mediocre performances this season on a franchise that has Stanley Cup aspirations. However, the verdict is out if Jarry is the answer. That is because he has a history of injury issues.

Jarry has played his entire career with the Penguins, and Skinner has played his entire career with the Oilers. This season, Jarry has a record of 9-3-1 with a goals against average of 2.66, one shutout, and a save percentage of .909. Skinner has a record of 11-8-4, with a goals against average of 2.83, save percentage of .891, and two shutouts.

The Oilers are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference with 34 points. The Penguins are tied for eighth in the Eastern Conference with the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils.
