
For the second straight week, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been named the National Hockey League First Star of the Week. A week ago, McDavid had four goals and six assists and 10 points. This past week from December 15-21, 2025, McDavid had 10 points again. He had five goals and five assists in four games.
Also this past week, a stretch of games where the Oilers had a record of three wins and one loss, McDavid was a +1 with seven power-play points, one shorthanded point, 20 shots on goal, 25 faceoff wins, two blocked shots, three hits, one takeaway, and nine giveaways. McDavid’s shorthanded point came in a 3-1 Oilers win over the Boston Bruins. McDavid scored an insurance goal on an all-Canadian goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby. British Columbia, and defenseman Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario at 1:41 of the third period to close out the scoring.
McDavid’s best game of the week came on December 16 as he had four points (two goals and two assists) in a 6-4 Oilers win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. That was followed by two points (one goal and one assist) in the Oilers win over the Bruins, one goal in a 5-2 Oilers loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, and three points (one goal and two assists) in the Oilers’s 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. McDavid’s blocked shots for the week came in the Oilers’s wins against the Penguins and Golden Knights.
For the season, McDavid now leads the NHL in assists (39), and points (62). He also has 23 goals, 14 penalty minutes, 27 power-play points, two shorthanded points, one game-winning goal, 122 shots on goal, 187 faceoff wins, 15 blocked shots, 14 hits, 13 hits, and 60 giveaways. McDavid’s other shorthanded point this season came on October 11, in a 3-1 Oilers win over the Vancouver Canucks. McDavid set up Leon Draisaitl with one minute and 13 seconds left in the game to close out the scoring. McDavid’s game-winning goal came on December 4 in a 9-4 Oilers win over the Seattle Kraken. McDavid put the Oilers up 5-2 at 6:14 of the second period from defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Draisaitl on the power-play.
The Oilers have 42 points. They are in second place in the Pacific Division, and two points back of the Anaheim Ducks.
