
The first round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft took place on Friday night from Los Angeles, California. Here are the 19 Canadians selected in the first round.
1) Matthew Schaefer– The defenseman from Stoney Creek, Ontario was selected first overall by the New York Islanders. Last season with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League, he had seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 17 games.
2) Michael Misa–The centre from Oakville, Ontario was selected second overall by the San Jose Sharks. Last season with the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL, he had 62 goals and 72 assist for 134 points in 65 games.
3) Caleb Desnoyers–The centre from Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec was selected fourth overall by the Utah Mammoth. Last season with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, he had 35 goals and 49 assists for 84 points in 56 games.
4) Brady Martin–The centre from Elmira, Ontario was selected fifth overall by the Nashville Predators. Last season with the Sault. Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL, he had 33 goals and 39 assists for 72 points in 57 games.
5) Porter Martone–The right winger from Peterborough, Ontario was selected sixth overall by the Philadelphia Flyers. Last season with the Brampton Steelheads of the OHL, he had 37 goals and 61 assists for 98 points in 57 games.
6) Jake O’Brien–The centre from Toronto, Ontario was selected eighth overall by the Seattle Kraken. Last season with the Brantford Bulldogs of the OHL, he had 32 goals and 66 assists for 98 points in 66 games.
7) Roger McQueen–The centre from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was selected 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks. Last season with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, he had 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 17 games.
8) Benjamin Kindel–The right winger from Coquitlam, British Columbia was selected 11th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Last season with the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL, he had 35 goals and 64 assists for 99 points in 65 games.
9) Jack Nesbitt–The centre from Sarnia, Ontario was selected 12th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers. Last season with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL, he had 25 goals and 39 assists for 64 points in 65 games.
10) Carter Bear–The left winger from West St. Paul, Manitoba was selected 13th overall by the Detroit Red Wings. Last season with the Everett Silvertips of the OHL, he had 40 goals and 42 assists for 82 points in 56 games.
11) Jackson Smith–The defenseman from Calgary, Alberta was selected 14th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Last season with the Tri-City Americans of the WHL, he had 11 goals and 43 assists for 54 points in 68 games.
12) Braeden Cootes–The centre from Sherwood Park, Alberta was selected 15th overall by the Vancouver Canucks. Last season with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL, he had 26 goals and 37 assists for 63 points in 60 games.
13) Kashawn Aitcheson–The defenseman from Toronto was selected 17th overall by the Islanders. Last season with the Barrie Colts of the OHL, he had 26 goals and 33 assists for 59 points in 64 games.
14) Cole Reschny–The centre from Macklin, Saskatchewan was selected 18th overall by the Calgary Flames. Last season with the Victoria Royals of the WHL, he had 26 goals and 66 assists for 92 points in 62 games.
15) Justin Carbonneau–The right winger from Levis, Quebec was selected 19th overall by the St. Louis Blues. Last season with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL, he had 46 goals and 43 assists for 89 points in 62 games.
16) Cameron Reid–The defenseman from Aylmer, Ontario was selected 21st overall by the Nashville Predators. Last season with the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL, he had 14 goals and 40 assists for 54 points in 67 games.
17) Bill Zonnon–The right winger from Montreal was selected 22nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Last season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL, he had 28 goals and 55 assists for 83 points in 64 games.
18) Lynden Lakovic–The left winger from West Kelowna, British Columbia was selected 27th overall by the Washington Capitals. Last season with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL, Lakovic had 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points in 47 games.
19) Joshua Ravensbergen–The goaltender from North Vancouver, British Columbia was selected 30th overall by the San Jose Sharks. Last season with the Prince George Cougars of the WHL, he had a record of two wins and three losses with a goals against average of 3.60 and a save percentage of .896.
