
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Nick Pivetta of Victoria, British Columbia recorded his 64th Major League Baseball quality start on Wednesday. He accomplish the feat in a 1-0 Padres win over the Washington Nationals at Petco Park in San Diego, California.
Pivetta threw seven shutout innings and gave up three hits. He had pinpoint control with 10 strikeouts and zero walks. Of the 90 pitches Pivetta threw were 62 strikes and 28 balls.
The Padres needed only one run to win the game. That was a RBI single in the second inning from Luis Arraez which scored Tyler Wade.
Pivetta now has nine quality starts for the Padres this season, his first in San Diego. Pivetta also has 36 quality starts in his MLB career with the Boston Red Sox and 19 quality starts in his career with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Pivetta now has eight wins on the season, which leads the National League. He is tied with Clay Holmes of the New York Mets, Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers, Brandon Pfaadt of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and former Toronto Blue Jay Robbie Ray of the San Francisco Giants.
On the season, Pivetta has a record of eight wins and two losses with an earned run average of 3.36. During 16 games and 91 innings, he has given up 70 hits, 34 earned runs, 11 home runs and 24 walks, to go along with 101 strikeouts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.03
