
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Nick Pivetta of Victoria, British Columbia recorded his 58th Major League Baseball quality start on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-2 Padres win over the Chicago Cubs at Petco Park in San Diego, California.
Pivetta pitched six innings and only gave up one earned run. He allowed four hits and one walk, to go along with six strikeouts. Pivetta threw a season high 91 pitches, of which 59 pitches were strikes and 32 pitches were balls.
This was Pivetta’s third quality start of the season. He gave up zero earned runs in seven innings in a 5-0 Padres win over the Atlanta Braves on March 30, and gave up zero earned runs in seven innings again in an 8-0 Padres win over the Colorado Rockies on April 11.
In 2025, Pivetta has a record of three wins and one loss with an earned run average of 1.57. During 23 innings, he gave up 14 hits, four earned runs, one home run and five walks, to go along with 24 strikeouts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.83.
This is Pivetta’s first season with San Diego. He previously has had 36 quality starts with the Boston Red Sox and 19 quality starts with the Philadelphia Phillies.
With the win, the Padres improve to a record of 15 wins and four losses. They lead the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers by a game and a half in the National League West.
