
Colorado Avalanche centre Nathan MacKjnnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia has been named the National Hockey League first star of the month for November on Tuesday. In 13 games, MacKinnon had 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points. MacKinnon was also a +20 with four penalty minutes, six power-play points, one game-winning goal, 57 shots on goal, 123 faceoff wins, 10 blocked shots, six hits, four takeaways, and 17 giveaways.
MacKinnon’s game-winning goal came on November 20 in a 6-3 Avalanche win over the New York Rangers. MacKinnon scored from Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar of Calgary, Alberta, and Martin Necas. The goal came at 10:48 of the third period and put the Avalanche up 4-3.
The most notable game of the month for MacKinnon came on November 9. He had two goals and three assists for five points in a 5-4 Avalanche overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks.
MacKinnon leads the NHL this season in goals (22), points (46), plus/minus (+32), even strength goals (16), and shots on goal (114). He also has 24 assists, 12 penalty minutes, 11 power-play points, two game-winning goals, 264 faceoff wins, 18 blocked shots, 19 hits, eight takeaways, and 44 giveaways.
MacKinnon’s other game-winning goal this season came on October 9 in a 2-1 Avalanche win over the Utah Mammoth. MacKinnon scored from Makar and Necas again. This time it was at 2:52 of the third period on the power-play to break a 1-1 deadlock.
