Naomi Urness wins Women’s Big Air freestyle skiing gold in Colorado

Naomi Urness of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec won the gold medal for Canada in a Women’s Big Air freestyle skiing event at the Steamboat Ski Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado on Saturday. For Urness, it was her third career World Cup big air freestyle skiing medal. In the first two World Cup events of the season, Urness won the silver medal in Secret Garden, China on November 29, and the bronze medal in Beijing, China on December 6.

On Saturday, Urness had a score of 156.25 points. Katerina Kotsar of Ukraine won the silver medal with a score of 152.5 points. Ruyi Yang of China won the bronze medal with a score of 148.5 points. Urness reached the podium by 14.25 points. Avery Krumme of the United States finished in fourth place with a score of 142 points.

On December 6 in Beijing, Urness had a podium score of 171.5 points. Anni Karava of Finland won the gold medal with a score of 175.5 points. Mengting Liu of China won the silver medal with a score of 172.25 points. Urness reached the podium by three points over Kristy Muir of Great Britain, who had 168.5 points.

In the World Cup standings for women’s big air freestyle skiing, Urness leads with 240 points. Muir is in second with 179 points. This was the last big air World Cup for freestyle skiing before the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. There will be one more World Cup event in Tignes, France on March 20.
