
The Montreal Canadiens have won their first game of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, despite defeating the Washington Capitals 6-3 in game three of the best out of seven series on Friday from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, they still trail the series two games to one.
The Canadiens were led in scoring by Alex Newhook of St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Cole Caufield, as they had two point each. They both had one goal and one assist for two points. The other four Canadiens goal scorers were defenseman Alexandre Carrier of Quebec City, Quebec, captain Nick Suzuki of London, Ontario, Juraj Slafkovsky and Christian Dvorak.
The Canadiens scored the last three goals of the game. Dvorak scored the game-winning goal at 4:17 of the third period from defenseman David Savard of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec and Joel Armia to put the Canadiens up 4-3. Slafkovsky and Newhook then scored insurance markers.
Both Canadian goaltenders were injured in the game and did not return. According to Elias Edmonson of habfanatics.com, it appeared Canadiens goaltender Samuel Montembeault of Becancour, Quebec left the game with a hamstring injury, and Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson of Calgary, Alberta appeared to injure his left leg according to Bailey Johnson of the Washington Post.
