
The Moncton Wildcats are in the 2025 Memorial Cup semifinal at the Sun Life Financial Colisee in Rimouski, Quebec on Friday. The Wildcats will face the Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights, with the winner playing the Medicine Hat Tigers in Sunday’s final.
On Wednesday, the final round robin game of the tournament was played with the Wildcats defeating the host Rimouski Oceanic 6-2. Heading into the contest we knew the magnitude of the game. The winner would be in the semifinal, and the loser would be eliminated.
The Wildcats were led on Wednesday by centre Gabe Smith of St. Andrews, New Brunswick. Smith, who was drafted in the fourth round, 103rd overall by the Utah Hockey Club in the 2024 National Hockey League Entry Draft, had two goals and two assists for four points.
Two more Canadians on the Wildcats had multi-point games. Right winger Alex Mercer of Quebec City, Quebec had one goal and one assist for two points, and left winger Preston Lounsbury of Salisbury, New Brunswick had two assists. Meanwhile, defenseman Etienne Morin of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec also scored for Moncton.
In the round robin, Moncton lost to London by a score of 3-2 in overtime. Centre Sam O’Reilly of Toronto, Ontario scored the overtime winner.
