Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec won the Olympic silver medal on Thursday in the men’s moguls event at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. For Kingsbury, this was his fourth Olympic medal as he has now won one gold medal and three silver medals.

The fact that Kingsbury won the silver medal on Thursday could be considered a little bizarre. The reason is because Kingsbury had the exact same score as gold medalist Cooper Woods of Australia. Kingsbury and Woods both had scores of 83.71 points. However, it was Woods who won the gold medal and Kingsbury who won the silver medal because Woods had the better turn score. Woods had a turn score of 48.4 and Kingsbury had a turn score of 47.7.

Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the bronze medal with a score of 83.44 points. Kingsbury reached the podium by 1.31 points. Walter Wallberg of Sweden finished in fourth place with a score of 82.4 points.

The fact that Kingsbury did not win Olympic gold could be considered unfair. The bottom line is there should have been two gold medals awarded.

Kingsbury’s gold medal came at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. His prior silver medals came at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

This was Canada’s fifth medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. They have won two silver medals and three bronze medals. Their five medals is 10th in the overall medal standings.
