
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec has won the gold medal in men’s dual moguls at the World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships in Engadin, Switzerland on Friday. This is the fifth time that Kingsbury has won the gold medal in men’s dual moguls in the history of the championships, as he also won gold in 2015 in Kreischberg, Austria, in 2019 in Deer Valley, Utah, in 2021 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and in 2023 in Bakuriani, Georgia.
Kingsbury won his semifinals and finals match quite easily. In his semifinals battle, eventual bronze medalist Matt Graham of Australia did not finish. in the final, silver medalist Ikuma Horishima of Japan did not finish. Kingsbury also beat Enea Buzzi of Switzerland in the round of 32 when Buzzi did not finish, and Takuya Shimakawa of Japan in the round of 16 by a score of 19-16. Kingsbury advanced even though he was slower than Shimakawa. Then in the quarterfinals, Kingsbury beat Pavel Kolmakov of Kazakhstan 25-10.
Kingsbury is one of two Canadians to win the gold medal in men’s dual moguls in the history of the World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Alexandre Bilodeau of Montreal, Quebec won gold in 2009 in Inawashiro, Japan, in 2011 in Deer Valley, Utah and in 2013 in Voss, Norway. Kingsbury won Olympic gold in men’s moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. Bilodeau won Olympic gold in men’s moguls at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Dual moguls will be making its Olympic debut at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
