
Team Canada came away with two medals on Wednesday on the opening day of the 2025 World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships in Engadin, Switzerland. Both medals came in moguls as Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec won the silver medal in men’s individual moguls action, and Maia Schwinghammer of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan won the bronze medal in women’s individual moguls action.
In men’s moguls, Kingsbury posted a score of 82.68. Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the gold medal with a score of 89.03. Daeyoon Jung of South Korea won the bronze medal with a score of 81.76 points. Kingsbury reached the podium by 1.91 points over Nick Page of the United States, who was in fourth place with a score of 80.77 points. This was Kingsbury’s 14th World Championship medal. He has won eight gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals.
In women’s moguls, Schwinghammer posted a score of 74.92 points. Perrine Laffont of France won the gold medal with a score of 77.92 points. Hinako Tomitaka of Japan won the silver medal with a score of 75.15 points. Schwinghammer reached the podium by 5.28 points over fellow Canadian Laurianne Desmarais-Gilbert of Sainte-Adele, Quebec, who finished in fourth place with a score of 69.64 points. This was Schwinghammer’s first World Championship medal.
Kingsbury won the gold medal in men’s moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. The medals for Schwinghammer and Kingsbury will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
