
Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Miha Fontaine of Magog, Quebec won his first ever World Cup aerials medal on Monday. He accomplished the feat by winning a bronze medal in Lake Placid, New York.
Fontaine posted a score of 107.73 points. Xingpeng Li of China won the gold medal with 137.19 points and Xindi Wang of China won the silver medal with 112 points. Fontaine prevented the Chinese sweep as he had 0.63 points more than Jiaxu Sun of China, who finished in fourth place with 107.1 points.
This was the final World Cup aerials event of the season. Fontaine finished in eighth place in the standings with 181 points. Sun was the Crystal Globe champion with 330 points.
Fontaine won the bronze medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. He teamed up with Lewis Irving of Quebec City, Quebec and Marion Thenault of Sherbrooke, Quebec to place third in the mixed team aerials event.
Miha Fontaine is the son of Canadian aerials star Nicolas Fontaine of Magog. Nicolas Fontaine won 36 World Cup aerials medals from 1991 to 2002, and the gold medal in men’s aerials at the 1997 World Freestyle Skiing Championships in Iizuna Kogen Ski Area in Nagano, Japan. The bronze medal for Miha Fontaine will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
