Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson reach quarters of 2025 World Beach Volleyball Championship

Canadian Olympic silver medalists Melissa Humana-Paeredes and Brandie Wilkerson of Toronto, Ontario are in the quarterfinals of the 2025 World Beach Volleyball Championships. On Thursday in Adelaide, Australia in the round of 16, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson beat Dani Alvarez Mendoza and Tania Moreno Matveeva of Spain 21-15, 21-11.

Wilkerson recorded 20 points (14 attack points and six block points). Humana-Paredes had 14 points (13 attack points and one block point). It was a strong effort by the Canadians who were in control throughout the entire match.

Next up for Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes in the quarterfinals are the Brazilian duo of Carolina Solberg Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcante (Friday, 3:50 AM). Cavalcante teamed up with Ana Patricia Silva Ramos at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 and reached the quarterfinals before losing 21-19, 18-21, 15-11 to Joana Heidrich and Anouk Verge-Depre of Switzerland. Solberg Salgado teamed up with Barbara Seixas de Freitas and made the round of 16 at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris before losing to Australia’s Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy, 24-22, 21-14.

It was at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes delivered an impressive result. They won the Olympic silver medal with the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

There will be three other quarterfinal matches on Friday. Thamela Coradello Galil and Victoria Lopes of Brazil are facing Valentina Gottardi and Reka Orsi Toth of Italy, Tina Laura Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova of Latvia are facing Americans Molly Shaw and Kelly Cheng, and in an all-American matchup, Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth will face Julia Donlin and Lexy Denaburg.
